Personal
Christopher Blanton was born in Walnut Creek, California on December 7, 1970. He has been a member of the bar for the State of Texas since 1996 and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Southern and Northern Districts of Texas. Preparatory Education: University of Texas (B.A. 1992). Legal Education: University of Houston Law Center (J.D., 1996, cum laude). American Jurisprudence Awards: Torts, Torts II and Contracts II.
Legal Practice
Christopher’s legal practice has provided him with insight into construction markets across Texas. He began his legal career in 1996 as an associate in the construction section of the Dallas law firm of Cooper & Scully. In 1999, he started his own law firm in a rural East Texas community focusing on the defense of the residential and commercial construction industries. In 2003, he joined the firm of Gardere Wynne & Sewell as a construction attorney; he left that position in 2005 to work in the construction group of Houston-based Cokinos, Bosien & Young. In 2008, Christopher assumed the role as junior partner managing the newly-formed construction practice group at the San Antonio firm of Thornton, Biechlin, Segrato, Reynolds & Guerra. In June 2009, he became associated with Capshaw & Associates in Dallas, Texas where his practice remains devoted to the representation of the construction industry.
Throughout his career, Christopher’s practice has emphasized the defense of design professionals and contractors in disputes arising out of commercial, industrial and residential construction projects. His experience includes handling litigation relating to alleged design and construction errors, building performance issues, scheduling and critical path disputes, non-payment and contingent payment matters and construction-related injuries/deaths. He has handled matters arising out of a wide range of projects including high-rise office structures, distribution centers, hotels and convention centers, strip centers, malls, gas stations, commercial buildings, clean rooms, industrial complexes, educational facilities, sports arenas, football fields, swimming pools, subdivisions, custom and ‘spec’ homes, airports, parking structures and casinos.
Memberships
Christopher is a member of the State Bar of Texas Construction Section and a member of Construction Section of the San Antonio Bar Association. He has held memberships in a number of industry trade groups including the Associated General Contractors, the Greater San Antonio and Grayson County Builders Associations and the National Association of Home Builders. Christopher has been recognized as a Texas Rising Star Lawyer Under 40.
